True, I don’t stay current on fatwas any more than I do on excommunications from the Catholic church. Maybe some self-appointed or State-approved cleric has called down the wrath of the faithful on Merzak Allouache for his film Les Terrasses. After all, Allouache  uses the five hours for prayer to mark off the events happening on each one of the five terraces above the buildings in five of Algiers’ neighborhoods. Noir comedy? Yes. Torture, murder, violence and abuse are funny? No. But as the lyrics say in the song that ends the movie: don’t take yourself too seriously.

Something like a Franco-Algerian version of Lindsay Anderson’s O Lucky Man. Well done. Well done indeed.

I won’t even try to figure out the path that will lead to this evening. Monday. Lots to do and most of it won’t get done because other things will happen instead.

Onward? Where else?
