just a chatty post

a quick scope at media headlines this morning, or I’ll to on a reading binge in a number of directions. I’d rather spend the time on another read-through the draft. At this point, I’m reading both from the top down and from the sort-of ending up. Important bits still missing but I’m having fun and that’s the main thing.

A full evening of gossip with a friend last night. Gossip? No, of course not. Thoughtful reflections on the various games of musical chairs around town – who is with whom this week, what happened at such and such a party, plus some of the more astounding parent-child-teacher interactions we’ve experienced since our last get-together. The friend teaches in middle school; the father of one of the children I coach once “served” a six-month stint as TA in her class and sexually harassed her to the brink of major trouble. I have no such problems with him because, as he once said at the end of one of his diatribes against women “oh but I don’t think of you as a woman at all”. Among other talents, he’s clearly gifted for the backward compliment.

Alors: a morning with the characters of a fictional nature. The afternoon will go to the monthly review of the real-life variety. Meanwhile the Romanian doctor goes up before the fifteen-member panel of his French peers this evening, and promised to send me a message whether he passes the language proficiency test or not. If he gets to read off the Hippocratic Oath tonight, he tells me he wants to continue French conversation sessions at a more leisurely rate. This would suit me just fine because he’s a treasure trove of thoughtful reflections on his former neighbors in a small Romanian village. You never know when that kind of thing can come in handy.

voilà. allez hop.
